Open Source Promotes Development; Communication Facilitates Cooperation

-Redflag 2000 Visited OpenOffice.org¡¯s Headquarters and Talked about OOo¡¯s Development

¡¡¡¡German time Sep. 17th, 9:00 a.m., a 7-person Redflag 2000 delegation led by General Manger Hu Caiyong visited Hamburg-based SUN Inc.¡¯s OpenOffice.org headquarters. Community principal Dr. Louis Suarez-Potts made the reception personally. The two parties discussed deep technology issues, as well as how to promote further cooperation.
¡¡¡¡As an old friend, Doctor Louis had always been watching RedOffice¡¯s development. At the first of 2007, he personally visited Redflag 2000¡¯s headquarters, and assured the 1st OpenOffice.org International Summit Forum be successfully held in Beijing, China. It is at this very forum that Redflag 2000 and SUN Inc.¡¯s OpenOffice.org project signed the comprehensive cooperation agreement, in which the two parties agreed to cooperate to develop on OpenOffice.org¡¯s technology content, and dispatch technicians to each other¡¯s office to make deeper technical exchange. This comprehensive cooperation agreement also specified that SUN Inc.¡¯s professional engineers should not only provide support on technology, but also through OpenOffice.org¡¯s platform, increase domestic office software¡¯s quality.

¡¡¡¡This visit was a summary and continuous deepening of the previous cooperation. The main purpose of this visit was to conduct technical discussion. Redflag 2000 presented the totally new design of RedOffice (new edition) to its German counterpart, and listened to the main functional characteristics and development direction of StarOffice 9 presented by OpenOffice.org, as well. Doctor Louis thought the new edition of RedOffice was very innovative, which might represent the new development of OOo. He hoped the product researchers of Redflag 2000 would participate directly in the needs design of OpenOffice.org, and contributed good thoughts to the community, so as to have China users¡¯ needs effectively fed back in the community research and development, and that the two parties can cooperate together. OpenOffice.org community would also put more energy in supporting RedOffice¡¯s development. One of the principals in charge of the community technology would work in Redflag 2000 from October, 2007 for 3 to 6 months, to make site instruction towards Redflag¡¯s technical team.
¡¡¡¡Mr. Hu stated that through this visit, Redflag 2000 and OpenOffice.org community made their relationship further connected, had mutual understanding and recognition towards¡¯ each party¡¯s research and development direction and technology, with in mind that the two parties would have deeper cooperation. Henceforth, Redflag 2000 would also strive to make more contributions to the community. Except contributing source codes, Redflag would also participate in development direction and specific design of OOo. As to whether RedOffice¡¯s totally new design would cause OpenOffice.org¡¯s development dispute, the two parties would continue to do research, so as to avoid the possible disputes. The two parties would continue to uniform research development and product design concept, so as to complete OpenOffice.org edition and together promote the community¡¯s development. General Manager Wu also suggested OpenOffice.org community edition should be exclusive, so as to avoid a chaotic situation of many editions. In one word, the community helps either party to realize open source dream, and it also needs more people¡¯s input and contribution.
¡¡¡¡Afterwards, Redflag 2000 delegation would go to Barcelona to attend the 5th OpenOffice.org Annual Conference, to share together OOo technical results and explore OOo¡¯s future development direction with open sources elites from around the world.¡¡¡¡
